Royal College of Art (RCA) London & Werkraum Bregenzerwald Exhibition Vienna Design Week 2017
Overview
The exhibition explores the collaborative relationship between craftsperson and designer. The students at RCA have been urged to reflect on their position as designers in an urban context, in relation to and in contrast with, the practices of their collaborators at Werkraum, who work within a regional craft community.
The intersection of these young designers and master craftspeople is told through a journey-led exhibition, depicted through three thematic stages: material culture of Bregenzerwald, visibility/invisibility of craft, and recontextualising/reimagining materials/practices. Works are crafted by Tischlerei Bereuter, Felder Metall, Mohr Polster, Strolz Leuchten, Claus Schwarzmann and Oberhauser & Schedler.
